The old Tank Capacitor is made out of 10 22nF 1250V MKP capacitors for 2,2nF @12,5KVDC. There is also a 10MOhm bleeding resistor across euch cap. The caps are mounted on a rasterplate.
!!! This caps are not able to handle the highvoltage pulses. For first light I used 2 strings of 20 caps in Series to get 2,2nF @25KVDC. This configuration worked well, but is too big for the 0,5inch Coil !!!
Update: Got some more caps!!!
I got some cheap WIMA caps for the 0,5" and 1" teslacoils on Ebay. Both types are MKP caps for pulse-applications.
This is the new MMC for the 0,5" coil. Itīs made out of 10 series capacitors with 22nF@1,6KV each for a total value of 2,2nF @ 16KVDC.
!!! This caps are not able to handle the highvoltage pulses. For the tests I used 2 strings of 20 caps in Series to get 2,2nF @32KVDC. This configuration worked well, but is too big for the 0,5inch Coil !!!
Update: Just bought some FKP1 caps
This is the new and final MMC for the 0,5" coil. Itīs made out of 10 series capacitors with 22nF@1,25KV each for a total value of 2,2nF @ 12,5KVDC. This caps are expensive, but I got very impressive Sparks with that.
