The 3" Powersupply is a neontransformer based supply made out of 2 very strong neontransformers which I bought from a neonsighn shop in vienna for 100 Euro. They are switched serial for 12KV at 235mA.
One transformer is rated 6KV@150VA, but with the shunts removed they give me 6KV@235mA, thatīs 1370VA for one neontransformer.
On October, 21st I tested the supply. Much to my regret I forgot to adjust the transformer safety gaps and so overvoltage killed the secondaries of my new neons.
At the moment I am rebuilding the transformers and hope to get it running again someday. This supply worked very good with the 3inch coil and it would be a pity not to get this supply done again.
Update! This is how the PSU looks like after the repair.
This beast has a lot of power now. I can choose from 3 power levels: 14A 16A and 18A. Thats 3220VA; 3680VA and 4140VA for highest power levels. Thatīs 12KV @ 345VA. A lot of power for a dual NST supply! I cant wait to test the 4 and 6 inch coil with it. I hope to get some 2000mm sparks!
Update! The beast is dead, caused by a forgotten safetygap-adjustment.
1 Transformer got killed cause of a Primary-Secondary strike over the transformer core. The connection melted together and I wasnīt able to fix it. Very bad luck because I will not get this type of transformer again. Maybe Iīll build a 8 MOT stack to provide enough voltage for sparks 3 times the winding lenght of the 3 medium coils (4" 5" and 6").
