4 Inch Teslacoil
Sparks from the new Coil

This is a picture has been taken at the first test run, the spark to the ladder is 1250mm long (2 times the winding lenght -> very boring but I have no space to give full power). I took 2 of the 8 caps from my 8" MMC, because the other MMC will not be finished cause the cap is too expensive to keep it for the 4" coil.

As the rotary isnīt finished I took the single-vacuum gap from the old 4" configuration, NST-Powersupply was at lowest level, thatīs 3,2KVA and the tank cap is 35nF @ 24,6KVDC.

This Is the longest spark I measured, because I wasnīt able to put the ladder more far away from the coil because there is no more space left in my working room, also the gap of the vacuum-sparkgap was not fully opened, so I had not had the full charging voltage when firing.

Notice the wooden piece that covers 5% of the image on the right side - Itīs my workroom door, because this time I was standing outside the room with opened door, because I really was afraid of this coil. All sparks on the pictures contain a 1250mm strike, I hope to get 155mm (2,5 times winding lenght) or even 186mm (3 times the winding lenght). The problem is that I have no room thatīs big enough and my neighbours donīt like the idea of testing the coil outside the house.

During the run I smelled melted plastic, on the picture you see a glow on the 230V side of one neon. (perhaps the voltage of the HV ground came through the HV-Winding to the NST core and sparked from the core to the 230V side (not good but the NST Supply still works without any problems). I plan not to connect the secondary ground of the Coil to the HV ground of the transformer again!

Another image in the dark, maybe one day I try another run with 4 seconds exposure time images but today I am just frightened and still donīt want to power up the coil in this little room again.
